MEDICAL BILLING & CODING CERTIFICATION

Medical office careers are among the fastest growing in today’s job market!

Millstream Adult Workforce Education offers two training pathways:

1) 400-hour full-time Medical Billing & Coding Specialist Certification Training and 
2) Individual Medical Billing & Coding Modules.  Instruction is hands-on under the direction of certified instructors.

NATIONAL HEALTH CAREERS ASSOCIATION INDUSTRY CREDENTIAL: Testing is recommended to secure a job in a medical office. At Millstream Adult Workforce Education we offer NHA certification testing in the areas of Medical Office Administrative Assistant, Medical Billing & Coding Specialists, and Medical Transcriptionist.

MEDICAL BILLING & CODING CERTIFICATION TRAINING

395-Hour Medical Billing & Coding Specialist Fee: $3197
Millstream Adult Workforce Education has been successfully training adults in the field of Medical Office Technologies for four years. 50% of the graduates from our full-time program have found jobs in medical office careers. 100% have passed the NHA industry credential as Certified Billing & Coding Specialists, CBCS. Our focus is to prepare adults for billing & coding careers with emphasis on professional communication skills. The program is a total of 400 hours including an externship. 395 hrs
Classes: 1/11/10 - 6/8/10 M, T, W, Th 5:30 - 9:30 pm

Externship: June & July, 2010 (Mon-Fri - days & times will vary) Fee includes 10% discount to full-time students and includes all texts and certification testing.

Externship: Externship is included as part of this full-time training program but scheduled during participating medical office business hours. Student must be available during day-time hours for an externship opportunity.

Fee includes: Texts, workbooks, pre-testing, WorkKeys testing , one NHA credential testing and externship. Fee is complete with no additional charges.

Requirements & Enrollment: Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. All students are pre-tested in math, reading and computer skills to determine educational levels needed to be successful in class. Students may test out of classes for which they show mastery level skills to reduce costs. A non-refundable $50 deposit is required by 12/28/09 to hold a seat in the class.

Financial Help: May be available at your local JFS or BVR office. Our program qualifies for a student loan at the Hancock Federal Credit Union or we offer a payment plan.

MEDICAL BILLING & CODING MODULES
Each module provides training for a specific set of skills. Communication, professionalism, computer and keyboarding skills are also necessary for a medical office career. CBCS National Certification Exam Fee: $115
National Healthcareers Association’s Industry Credential for a Certified Billing & Coding Specialist can be taken after completing Medical Terminology, Insurance Billing, ICD-9CM Coding and CPT/HCPCS Coding.

Medical Terminology Fee: $428 (Required for Medical Module Classes)
Course provides the basic techniques of building medical terms. These techniques of combining forms, suffixes and prefixes are applied to anatomy, physiology, pathology, diagnostic, symptomatic, and therapeutic terms and include the abbreviations needed to acquire a practical medical vocabulary. Interactive CD-ROM included with numerous interactive activities. Fee includes text. 46 hrs

ICD-9 CM Medical Coding Fee: $582 (Prerequisite Required – Medical Terminology)
This course prepares the student to assign numerical codes to clinical diagnoses regarding diseases and injury using the most current ICD-9-CM codes (International Classifications of Diseases-9th Revision, Clinical Modification). Fee includes one text and one reference book. 49 hrs 6:00 - 9:30 pm

Effective Communication Fee: $137
Human Resource Managers say the most important skill needed for any job is the ability to communicate effectively. Good communication skills are key to getting employed. This class will teach the awareness, motivations & skills needed to get to a healthy dialogue. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, learn & practice communication skills that address specific challenges. Includes book 15 hrs

Medical Insurance Billing Procedures Fee: $453 (Prerequisite Required – Medical Terminology)
Processing health insurance claims is highly recommended for anyone pursuing a career in any position in a medical office. Class instruction covers medical insurance, plan options, payer requirements, State & Federal Regulations, accurate completion of claims and basic coding procedures. Fee includes text and workbook. 42.5 hrs

CPT/HCPCS Medical Coding Fee: $526 (Prerequisite Required – Medical Terminology)
This course provides the codes for service and procedures used on insurance form using the most recent Current Procedural Terminology (CPT ) from the American Medical Association. CPT coding is used to describe services provided by all health care providers. Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding covers the medical codes for services, supplies and equipment not covered in CPT coding. Fee includes text and two reference books. 35 hrs

Medical Transcription Fee: $432 (Prerequisites Required – Medical Terminology & Keyboarding Speed 60 wpm minimum)
Students will be introduced to the various formats and reports utilized in medical transcription, emphasizing grammar and punctuation guidelines correlating with AAMT style. Transcription equipment is utilized for real time transcription of the various formats and reports. Fee includes text. 45 hrs

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM

Pharmacy Technicians are listed as one of the top 15 fastest growing careers
in West Central Ohio

Pharmacy Technician Fee: $895
Millstream’s 225-hour Pharmacy Technician program prepares the student for the CPhT certification and provides the customer service and communication skills needed to gain employment. Our unique program combines home-based computer training with personal instruction and an externship. Pharmacy Technician instruction is web-based and requires a computer w/ CD-ROM drive and internet connection. Students can live anywhere but must travel to campus to attend the required 24 hours of Communication/Customer Service training.

225 hrs On-Line: 6 months to complete
Externship: 48 Hours (unpaid/if available)
Communications/Customer Service - Mon 1/11 - 3/15 6:30-8:00 pm

The PassAssured curriculum includes these modules:
Orientation * Calculations * Federal Law * Aseptic Techniques
* Medication Review * Pharmacy Operations

Enrollment Requirements: Must be disciplined learner, have a high school diploma or GED, no felony convictions, 9th grade Reading level & Algebra 1 math skills. Students will be pre-assessed using TABE test level D.
